Following the resounding success of 2017, Bird Photographer of the Year is entering the last few weeks of the call for entries period for the 2018 competition. With over £15,000 worth of prizes on offer, including £5,000 for the overall winner, BPOTY certainly offers rich rewards for those who are fortunate enough to win. With seven different categories to enter, and a prize for the best portfolio of images, there are plenty of opportunities to do well in a competition that is growing in global appeal. And there’s every chance that your images may be featured in the BPOTY book which accompanies each year’s competition, a book which has been universally highly acclaimed.

BPOTY not only champions the art of bird photography and the bird photographers themselves, but it also does its bit for conservation through its support for the British Trust for Ornithology, who are also partners in the competition. Having raised over £5,500 so far from a direct contribution from entry fees, the BTO have put this money towards running boot camps for young birders in association with the Young Bird Photographer of the Year sponsors, The Cameron Bespolka Trust. These events are designed to engage and encourage the younger generation of birders and conservationists, helping to ensure that the future of conservation is in safe hands.

The competition closes for entries on 30 November 2017, so you still have a few weeks left to enter. But don’t leave it too late – start your entry now by visiting the competition website:
